Offered for sale is this highly distinctive and performance-enhanced 1988 Opel Ascona C CD Exclusive, finished in a striking factory Blue exterior over an exceptionally rare two-tone Brown and Silver interior. With just 92,126 kilometers on the odometer and a full mechanical restoration completed only 3,000 kilometers ago, this Ascona is far more than a preserved survivor—it’s a carefully built enthusiast's car that combines factory style with subtle motorsport-inspired upgrades.
Under the hood sits a fully rebuilt C20NE 2.0-liter engine, delivering 116 HP in stock form but now significantly enhanced thanks to a suite of internal and external upgrades. The engine rebuild includes new MAHLE pistons, a lightened and gram-balanced crankshaft, and a large-valve cylinder head fitted with phosphor bronze valve guides. Induction is handled by a pair of 45-bbl WEBER carburetors, and breathing is optimized through a polished intake manifold and a LEXMAUL 4-2-1 exhaust header, feeding into a full stainless steel 60mm exhaust system with a Mattig tip. A 296 SCHRICK camshaft brings a motorsport edge to the powerband, resulting in an engaging and responsive drive. The custom-assembled F20 gearbox—sourced from a Vectra 44—has been fitted with new synchros, a long 5th gear, and a lightened flywheel, offering both performance and drivability.
The exterior carries subtle yet purposeful enhancements that hint at the car’s underlying capabilities. Factory options like the door sill spoiler are paired with an Irmscher boot spoiler, GT grille, and a pair of yellow-lens Hella Comet 450 fog lamps. Rolling stock consists of classic 15-inch RONAL alloy wheels wrapped in new Michelin Pilot Sport 3 FSL tires, backed by factory GM mudguards. All glass is green-tinted with an added sun visor, and the electric front windows and heated mirrors bring period-correct luxury to the experience.
The car’s handling dynamics have been thoroughly reworked as well. It features 256 mm ATE PowerDisc brakes up front with rear drum brakes, and suspension is upgraded with adjustable KONI Sport yellow shock absorbers in the front and KYB Ultra SR units in the rear. Eibach Pro-Kit struts and Wiechers strut bars front and rear help the chassis remain flat and planted in corners, transforming the traditionally soft Ascona ride into something far more controlled and engaging.
Inside, the cabin is a time capsule of GM-era opulence, punctuated by performance tweaks. The dashboard is fitted with a rare GSI digital instrument cluster and a factory onboard computer (currently non-functional due to the carburetor conversion). An Irmscher leather steering wheel on a RAID HP hub provides a sporty grip, while a Kenwood KDC-BT640U head unit drives Kevlar-cone MAC Audio Olympic Gold 6x9s in the rear, all powered by a MacAudio Fearless 5000 D amplifier.
