This 2000 Audi S3 8L is a heavily modified example that has been owned by its current enthusiast for approximately eight years and has been extensively rebuilt, upgraded, and documented throughout that time. Originally delivered new in the Netherlands, the car shows approximately 318,000 kilometers, though the current built 1.8T 20V engine has covered only approximately 13,000 kilometers since its completion. The combination of Quattro all-wheel drive, a six-speed manual transmission, and a fully built turbocharged engine producing approximately 404 horsepower at the wheels makes this S3 a particularly serious performance-oriented example of Audi’s early hot hatch.
The current engine was assembled with a focus on durability and proper engineering rather than simply chasing the highest possible output. Internally, it uses Wiseco K563M815AP pistons, H-beam connecting rods secured with ARP 2000 bolts, upgraded valve springs, Supertech Inconel exhaust valves, ACL Race Series bearings, ARP head bolts, and a high-flow oil pump. Engine management is handled by a MaxxECU Plug-in system, while a Pulsar GTX2867R turbocharger supplies the boost. Fuel delivery is provided by Bosch 650cc injectors at 3 bar and a DeatschWerks fuel pump, with a Nuke Performance catch can and Pulsar 50mm blow-off valve completing the supporting hardware.
The car is configured with three separate engine maps, allowing the boost pressure and power output to be varied depending on how the car is being driven. On its highest setting, it runs approximately 1.6 bar of boost and produces a claimed 404 horsepower at the wheels. Following completion of the engine build, the owner deliberately put approximately 10,000 kilometers on the engine during its break-in period before having the car professionally tuned on a rolling road by VPR Engineering. The resulting calibration was intentionally conservative, with an emphasis on creating a fast, reliable, and properly functioning package rather than extracting every possible horsepower.
Supporting modifications include a Wagner intercooler, larger intake manifold, 3-to-4-inch air intake with a K&N filter, aluminum intercooler and bypass piping, and a full stainless-steel 3-inch exhaust system. Vibratech engine and gearbox mounts were also installed as part of the build.
Power is sent through the original-style 02M six-speed manual gearbox, which has been fully rebuilt with new bearings and seals as well as additional fourth-gear support. A Quaife differential was fitted, along with a CK105-11 1.8T 02M six-speed twin-disc clutch kit intended to handle the increased power output. The extensive attention paid to the drivetrain reflects the owner’s stated goal of building the car as a complete package rather than concentrating solely on engine performance.
Stopping power has been upgraded with a Porsche brake setup, with the brake discs having approximately 13,000 kilometers of use. Eibach suspension components are fitted, and the car rides on 19-inch alloy wheels at all four corners. A Maxton Design body kit further distinguishes the exterior, which is finished in black and has been protected with a glass coating. According to the seller, the paintwork remains in very good condition, with the car having been carefully maintained throughout the current ownership.
Inside, the S3 features a black interior with blue accents and has likewise been maintained with an emphasis on preservation. A ColorMFA instrument cluster has been installed, along with a Pioneer AVH-Z9200DAB double-DIN head unit. Amplifiers are neatly mounted in the spare-wheel compartment, while additional speakers in the parcel shelf are powered by a separate amplifier. The original spare wheel remains with the car, and air conditioning is retained.
The seller describes the approximately 318,000-kilometer odometer reading candidly, noting that the mileage is not considered representative of the car’s current condition. During the past eight years, extensive work has been carried out throughout the engine, gearbox, drivetrain, suspension, brakes, interior, and exterior. The seller states that whenever something required attention, it was addressed properly rather than choosing the least expensive solution, and the car has been treated as an enthusiast vehicle throughout its current ownership.
A particularly extensive collection of documentation accompanies the S3. The seller has retained invoices covering approximately eight years of ownership, along with documentation from the previous owner, photographs documenting the work performed, photographs from the engine build, rolling-road and dyno results, the original consistently completed service booklet, original owner's manuals and documentation, and multiple professional valuation reports. The car has reportedly been professionally revalued every three years during the seller’s ownership, with the most recent valuation placing the car at €37,500.
The S3 has been stored indoors during the winter months and was not driven during winter use. Despite its substantial performance, the owner states that the car has always been driven with respect, with the multiple engine maps allowing the lower-power settings to be used for normal driving rather than operating the car at maximum output at all times.
After approximately eight years of ownership, the seller has decided that it is time to move on to something new. The decision is described as a difficult one, given the amount of time, money, and attention invested in the car. Serious prospective buyers are invited to inspect the S3 at their leisure, with the extensive invoices, build photographs, dyno documentation, maintenance records, and valuation reports available for review. Given the car’s performance and enthusiast-oriented history, test drives are reserved for serious prospective buyers.
