  • This 1990 Volkswagen Golf is the product of a meticulous 19-year build and is finished in Audi Ibis White over a custom black and brown interior. Beneath its understated exterior lies a turbocharged 1.8-liter 20-valve engine paired with a six-speed manual transmission, and the car has been dyno tuned to produce a reported 410 horsepower and 488 Nm of torque. Showing approximately 160 kilometers since its most recent build, this extensively modified Mk2 has been featured in Finnish GTI Magazine and displayed at numerous automotive shows, where it has earned a reputation as a meticulously executed sleeper.

Originally acquired by the seller nearly two decades ago, the car has evolved through several stages of development with an emphasis on maintaining an OEM-inspired appearance while delivering modern performance. The body has been refinished in Audi Ibis White and features shaved side moldings and door locks, widened wheel arches, a Jetta front-end conversion, color-matched big bumpers, a narrowed rear license plate recess, GTI taillights, and a GTI rear spoiler. The floor pan has also been partially modified during the build. Completing the exterior are restored 16-inch OZ Futura wheels, widened to 8.5 inches in the front and 9.5 inches in the rear, wrapped in staggered Hankook tires.

The cabin has been comprehensively refurbished with black and brown upholstery, Recaro front seats, G60 door panels, a GTI dashboard, black headliner, and a Momo leather steering wheel. Auxiliary gauges have been neatly integrated to monitor engine performance, while approximately 10 square meters of sound deadening material has been installed throughout the interior. Audio equipment includes Hertz three-way component speakers, a Phoenix Gold amplifier, an Alpine DSP head unit, and a 10-inch Hertz subwoofer mounted in the luggage compartment.

Power comes from a heavily upgraded 1.8T 20-valve engine built with H-beam connecting rods, ADR naturally aspirated camshafts with adjustable cam gears, an Octavia RS intake manifold, a custom exhaust manifold, and a 3-inch exhaust system. Forced induction is provided by an MHI TD05 turbocharger sourced from an Evolution VIII, while fueling is handled by Bosch EV14 injectors and an Aeromotive fuel pressure regulator. The engine management system consists of an Autotune Freedrive ECU calibrated for E85 fuel, and the engine was assembled using new wear components throughout. Cooling is provided by a Corrado VR6 aluminum radiator with dual electric fans.

Power is delivered through a 02M six-speed manual gearbox equipped with a 5.5-kilogram Epytec single-mass flywheel, a sintered clutch, shortened Audi TT driveshafts, custom ISP axle shafts, and a Haldex rear differential featuring a selectable fixed 50/50 torque split. The suspension consists of BC Racing BR height- and damping-adjustable coilovers with polyurethane bushings throughout, while power steering has been added for improved drivability. Braking is handled by G60 280mm front brakes with Black Diamond discs and pads, S3 280mm rear brakes, and a 9-inch brake booster.
