This 1988 TVR 420 SEAC is finished in Gun Metal Grey over a red and grey leather interior with a birdseye maple dashboard veneer. Showing 65,090 miles, it is powered by a 5.1-litre V8 Developments engine paired with a five-speed manual gearbox, and is now offered by Open Air Imports in Wotton-under-Edge, England, with a documented history file and a 21-photo gallery. It will be supplied with a fresh service and MOT and a six-month warranty.
The car is an early example with the factory all-carbon-fibre body and rides on 16-inch OZ wheels. It was originally finished in red and was repainted in Gun Metal Grey during a body-off restoration completed in 2004. The seller notes stone chips across the front end and states that the price includes a front-end respray to address them.
The cabin is trimmed in red and grey leather, and the restoration added a dashboard veneer in Bentley birdseye maple. Air conditioning is fitted.
The original engine was replaced with a bespoke 5.1-litre unit built by V8 Developments, on the Rover V8 design. The seller reports that the carbon airbox has been refurbished and the ignition system upgraded by Northampton Motorsport in conjunction with JE Developments, with over £7,900 spent. The engine also carries an ACT carbon plenum and trumpets, an Accusump oil reservoir and an alloy radiator. The Nitron suspension was set up by Track V Road at a reported £5,800, the gearbox has been completely refurbished, and the geometry was set up by Centre Gravity.
The 420 SEAC, Special Equipment Aramid Composite, was the flagship of TVR's wedge range, developed with motorsport in mind and built in a run of just 37 cars before the 450 SEAC replaced it in 1988. This example was previously owned by Tim Lamont of ACT Performance Products and has featured in Cars and Conversions magazine, a copy of which is included in the history file.
