  • This 1986 Volkswagen Golf GTD Oettinger is a remarkably preserved, first-owner example showing just 16,757 kilometers and presented in Atlas Gray (LP7V) over a black leather interior. Sold new in Germany and never re-imported, the car remains in astonishing, near-new condition throughout. Its overall presentation, along with extensive documentation, service history, and period Oettinger upgrades, makes it one of the most pristine and collectible Mk2 diesel variants likely to be found today. A manual transmission is paired with its 1.6-liter diesel engine, and the car is not equipped with air conditioning.
Delivered new in September 1986, this Golf has been meticulously maintained and thoughtfully enhanced by its original owner from the earliest years of its life. At just 3,499 kilometers in April 1988, the car received an Oettinger intercooler conversion along with an Oettinger sports steering wheel and 16V suspension—work supported by original invoices and supplementary documentation. The car also features a rare full leather interior, professionally installed in 1991 with factory-quality finish and craftsmanship. Various interior and trim components were reupholstered in genuine leather, and a custom audio setup was integrated into a leather-wrapped parcel shelf that remains in perfect condition.
Finished in Atlas Gray, the exterior presents as close to showroom condition as a nearly 40-year-old Mk2 can be. The car rides on newly powder-coated 15-inch BBS RA375 wheels wrapped in new tires, complementing its clean and period-correct appearance. Chromed and polished components—including the valve cover, hood rod, and fan shroud—highlight the attention to detail invested over the years. All glass, trim, and body panels appear exceptionally well preserved, with no evidence of corrosion or wear commonly found on Mk2 Golfs.
Inside, the black leather cabin presents beautifully, showing minimal wear consistent with the car’s exceptionally low mileage. Equipment includes electric windows, an electric sunroof, and the Oettinger sports steering wheel. Two original keys, the original German registration papers, owner’s manual, and stamped service booklet accompany the car, along with numerous invoices, classic-car inspection documents, and Oettinger paperwork.
A recent major service at 16,558 kilometers included replacement of the timing belt, tensioner pulleys, water pump, serpentine belt, valve cover gasket, air filter, fuel filter, cabin filter, coolant, brake fluid, transmission fluid, and engine oil and filter. New tires, a new battery, new wipers, fresh gas struts for the tailgate, new floor mats, and refinished BBS wheels further contribute to the car’s turnkey condition. The accompanying invoices document the thoroughness of this work.
