This 1986 Volkswagen Golf Flair Edition is a remarkably original and well-preserved example of one of Volkswagen’s more distinctive Mk2 special trims, finished in its factory Kiwi Metallic (LP6V) over a unique brown, black, and white “Flair” interior. Showing 185,271 kilometers and just two owners from new, this Golf benefits from an extraordinary level of recent mechanical attention—including a full major service with timing belt, clutch, brakes, fluids, cooling components, and much more—making it an appealing turn-key classic with a valid MOT/emissions test through October 2026 and a registered classic-car designation.
The Flair Edition was one of the more characterful Mk2 special models, easily identified by its bi-color sport seats, green heat-insulating glass, model-specific exterior striping, “Flair” script, and the original 14-inch Snowflake alloy wheels. This example retains all its factory features including the original steering wheel, 7-rib grille, chrome trim, Wolfsburg fender badges, and side moldings. Inside, the interior remains tidy and impressively preserved for its age, with an intact parcel shelf, clean headliner, and no aftermarket modifications.
Under the hood, the 1.3-liter petrol engine paired with a 4-speed manual transmission remains in factory specification and has recently received one of the most comprehensive mechanical refreshes imaginable. The work includes a new timing belt and water pump, a new clutch, fresh oil and filter, new spark plugs, air filter, valve cover gasket, serpentine belt, new coolant and thermostat components, brake fluid, and a long list of cooling and sealing items. The braking system has been renewed with new front discs and pads, new rear drums, shoes, and cylinders, and both rear wheel bearings have been replaced. A new battery, radiator, heater hose, and balanced wheels complete the overhaul. The tires are nearly new with at least 90% tread remaining, and only a set of KAW lowering springs deviates from absolute factory originality.
The exterior remains in honest, original condition, presenting well overall with the mild wear expected of a 1986 car that has been preserved rather than restored. The body retains its correct Flair decals, original glass, and factory trim, and the car still carries its original European registration documents, owner’s manual, and service booklet.
