  • This 1970 BMW 1600 Cabriolet is finished in 002 Colorado Orange over a black vinyl interior, showing 100,880 km. Built by Baur in Stuttgart, the car was fully restored in 2017 and 2018, and its matching-numbers 1.6-liter inline-four is paired with a manual gearbox. It is now offered by Open Air Imports with a 30-photo gallery, and a clean Texas title is on file.

Produced on 9 October 1970 and delivered through Autohaus Krah & Elders in Fulda, Germany on 7 April 1971, the car was restored after the seller bought it from its last German owner near Nuremberg. The body was stripped, repaired where necessary and repainted in the factory color, with re-chromed bumpers, a new windshield and new trim, gaskets, emblems and mirrors fitted. After the restoration the car was sold to a customer in Texas and covered only about 900 km in seven years before returning to the Netherlands.

The interior was reupholstered in black vinyl with new loop-style carpets. The correct three-piece convertible dashboard, door panels and short center console are in place, and both the convertible top frame and the tonneau cover were replaced. The trunk was retrimmed in grey vinyl with a restored spare wheel, jack and tool set.

The matching-numbers engine was rebuilt with new plugs, wires, ignition components, coolant hoses, water pump and filters, and now runs a 123Ignition electronic ignition and an electric fuel pump. The front and rear axles were powder-coated and rebuilt with new bushings, bearings, brake components and Bilstein shocks on H&R springs. The gearbox was re-sealed with a new clutch, the exhaust system is new and the fuel tank was powder-coated and sealed inside.

BMW built just 1,692 examples of the 1600 Cabriolet between 1968 and 1970, all bodied by Baur. Few survive, and fewer still have been restored to this standard.
