This 1969 MG C Cabriolet is finished in red over a black interior, showing 65,500 kilometres. The six-cylinder version of MG's best-known roadster, it pairs a 2.9-litre inline six with a manual gearbox with overdrive on third and fourth gears, and is now offered by Open Air Imports in Achthuizen, Netherlands, with a thick file of documentation and a 7-photo gallery.
The red paintwork is set off by chrome bumpers and wire wheels, with the black soft top folded and its tonneau cover fitted. The seller reports a body-off restoration in 2003, carried out largely with original parts, including the original bumpers re-chromed and the original engine and gearbox retained.
The cabin is trimmed in black vinyl with thin red piping, with a black dashboard, a wooden gear knob and a centre console. The seller notes a radio/CD player and a battery cut-off switch are fitted, and the photos show the car as a left-hand-drive car.
The 2,912cc inline six is rated at 149 hp in the seller's specification, and the seller describes it at 145 hp. The seller reports that the engine, differential, dynamo, starter motor and radiator have all been overhauled, as have the gearbox, cylinder head, brakes, fuel system and suspension, and that the clutch complete with pressure plate was recently replaced at a cost of 3,500 euros, with invoices on file. The seller reports the car shifts, steers and brakes well, and that it has been driven extensively by the seller.
The car comes from a collection whose owner has stopped the hobby, and the seller notes a known maintenance history and two keys. The seller also notes the car was appraised at 40,000 euros.
The MG C, built from 1967 to 1969, was MG's six-cylinder answer to the demand for a more powerful B, with a revised front suspension to carry the larger engine. Cabriolets are the open-top form of a short-lived model, and a fully restored example with its original drivetrain is the version collectors look for.
