This 1969 Mercedes-Benz 280 SL is a restored, matching-numbers example showing 92,133 km, finished in Ivory White (code 670) over a Cognac MB-Tex interior (code 8006), the combination recorded on the car's data card. The seller reports a comprehensive restoration and describes the car's condition as concours-standard. Its original hard top is included, along with the brown soft top. It is now offered by Open Air Imports with a 23-photo gallery.
The restoration renewed the steering, viscous coupling, suspension arms, tyres, brakes and fuel injectors, and a battery cut-off switch has been added. The underside, engine bay and panel fit present as shown in the gallery, which includes lift photographs.
The Cognac MB-Tex cabin is trimmed to the original specification, with the painted dashboard, white steering wheel and Becker-style radio of the period. The seller notes the interior colour combination matches the data card exactly.
The 2,778-cc M130 inline-six is the car's original engine, matching the data card, and is rated at 170 hp. One change from factory specification must be stated plainly: the car is currently fitted with a six-speed manual gearbox, installed for more relaxed cruising. The original four-speed manual gearbox, described as being in perfect working order, is retained and included with the car.
The W113 'Pagoda' was the last of the hand-finished SLs, and the 280 SL is the most developed of the three. A data-card-matching car in its original colours, restored and photographed this thoroughly, is a rare offering.
