  • This 1969 Mercedes-Benz 280 SL is finished in Light Blue Metallic over a Medium Blue MB-Tex interior, showing 32,000 km. Ordered and delivered new in France and first registered on 25 February 1969, the car is equipped with a four-speed automatic transmission, power steering and four-wheel disc brakes, and carries both its removable hardtop and a dark blue soft top. The seller discloses plainly that the engine is not the car's original 2.8: a 2.5-liter inline-six from a 250 sedan, rated at 150 hp, is fitted in its place, so the car is not a matching-numbers example. It is now offered by Open Air Imports with a 30-photo gallery, its factory data card, a Belgian Car-Pass mileage record and service invoices dating back to 2011.

The car left the factory in Moss Green Metallic and was repainted in Light Blue Metallic, a color that was in the factory catalog for the model. The hardtop is finished to match, and the soft top is a dark blue replacement for the original black top. The seller reports that the car runs and drives very well.

The interior was originally Cognac MB-Tex and has been retrimmed in Medium Blue MB-Tex. Equipment includes a period radio, door armrests, seat belts and twin exterior mirrors.

The replacement 2.5-liter engine is documented in the seller's dossier by its engine number, and the automatic gearbox was repaired in 2016, when the transmission was removed, rebuilt and refitted. Further invoiced work includes a brake service in 2011, a replacement headlamp unit in 2013, ignition components in 2016, and a 2019 program covering rebuilt front brake calipers, new discs, pads and master cylinder, replacement cooling hoses and treatment of rust in the trunk. The 2019 invoice also notes a small oil leak at the automatic gearbox. A Belgian technical inspection in October 2024 recorded 31,814 km and passed the car with advisories to monitor the brake lines and the power steering. The Car-Pass records the mileage rising from 21,570 km in September 2000 to 31,814 km in October 2024.

The 280 SL was the final and most powerful version of the W113, the roadster whose concave hardtop earned the range its Pagoda nickname. This example is a documented French-delivered car whose color change and replacement engine are declared in full, offered with both tops and a paper trail that runs from its factory data card to its current inspection.
