This 1964 Austin Mini Cooper S Mk I is finished in green with a white roof over a grey interior. Originally delivered in the UK and now registered in Belgium, it spent part of its life as a historic rally car with FIA and RAC papers before being returned to road trim in recent years. Its 1,273cc engine is paired with a four-speed manual gearbox and a limited-slip differential. It is now offered by Open Air Imports in Etten-Leur, Netherlands, with a Heritage certificate, extensive history documents and a 30-photo gallery.
The green paintwork is set off by the white roof, chrome bumpers and 10-inch alloy wheels. Period details include an AA grille badge and a 1972 rally plaque, and a John Cooper signature is applied to the door. The seller reports that improvements were made to the trim inside and out to complete the car after its return to road specification.
The cabin is trimmed in grey, with two-tone seats, a wood-rimmed steering wheel and the central speedometer binnacle that marks out the Cooper S. Cooper S floor mats are fitted, and the gallery shows the door cards, headlining and rear seat in detail.
The 1,273cc engine breathes through twin carburettors and is paired with a four-speed manual gearbox and a limited-slip differential. The seller describes driving the car as a real experience, with an eager engine and a proper Cooper S exhaust note once it is warm.
The car started its life in the UK and became a rally car in Belgium at some point in its history. It held FIA and RAC papers and was used as a historic rally car; in the last few years it was changed back into a normal street car. A lot of documents accompany the car showing its history, along with a Heritage certificate. It is currently registered on Belgian papers, and the seller notes that Dutch papers can be arranged on request.
The Cooper S sat at the top of the original Mini range, and the model made its name in rallying, with Minis winning the Monte Carlo Rally in 1964, 1965 and 1967. The seller notes that only a few of the original Cooper S examples survived rust and accidents, which is what makes a documented 1964 car with period competition papers worth a close look.
