This 1964 Austin-Healey 3000 Mk3 is finished in red over a black leather interior with red piping, showing 52,600 km. It is a Phase 1 BJ8, the first and most developed version of the 3000 range, built only in 1963 and 1964. It is now offered by Open Air Imports with a 30-photo gallery.
The red paintwork is paired with a black mohair soft top and a matching mohair tonneau cover. The seller presents the car in excellent cosmetic condition, and four new Michelin XZX Classic tyres to the original specification have just been fitted, at a stated value of over 1,000 euros, using modern compounds while keeping the historically correct pattern and profile.
The black leather interior is piped in red and equipped with a wooden Moto-Lita steering wheel and a period stereo. The car is homologated for four passengers.
The 2,912 cc inline-six is rated at 150 hp and is paired with a four-speed manual gearbox with overdrive, engageable in second, third and fourth gears. Fitted equipment includes an aluminium rocker cover, driving lamps, a badge bar, chrome 72-spoke wire wheels and a special exhaust. The seller describes the car as fully working and very reliable, suited to long journeys, with a top speed of about 194 km/h, and discloses no specific flaws.
The BJ8 was the final evolution of the big Healey formula, adding roll-up windows, a wood-veneer dashboard and the most powerful version of the C-series six. Phase 1 cars, built for roughly a year before the raised-chassis Phase 2 arrived, are the scarcer half of BJ8 production.
